Elimination of weeds
Weed removal, where we can also do it with drones, is one of the new innovative treatments developed by FitoStinger. We tell you how we do it.
What are weeds?
Weeds, unwanted plants , and other terms refer to any plant species that grows wild in an area, generally cultivated or controlled by humans , such as agricultural crops , gardens, or buildings . Therefore, almost any plant can be considered a weed if it grows where it is not desirable.
Weeds are considered a nuisance, especially by gardeners and farmers. Many grow aggressively, hindering the normal development of other species . Furthermore, they often grow with considerable vigor because, in most cases, they are endemic species highly adapted to the environment and easily spread.
Weeds are usually classified as about 8.000 of the 250.000 plant species that exist in the world and, therefore, represent 0,1% of the world's flora.
What effects do weeds produce?
Some of the effects they produce include restricting light to other desirable plants. They also tend to steal nutrients applied to the soil in a given area intended for the desired plants. They can also carry or spread pathogens that degrade the quality of a crop. They may have thorns and chemicals that cause skin irritation. Some are harmful if ingested. Others can be very troublesome because they can be mistaken for desired plants, causing problems with both cleaning and handling. Some have parts that cling to clothing. And many of them take over the resources of the surface where they grow , however scarce, weakening that space and accumulating moisture , with the problems that this entails, such as those that grow on facades, roofs, and other parts of various structures.
Weeds can be classified in different ways: according to their life cycle, the shape of their leaf, or their preference for a specific climate or season.
- Weed, weed, or undesirable plant are those plants that grow in cultivated or human-controlled areas
- They proliferate in crops, gardens or buildings
- Many grow aggressively, preventing the normal development of other species
- They are usually endemic species with great capacity for expansion.
- They are classified as about 8.000 of the 250.000 species of plants that exist in the world
- They usually restrict light to other plants
- They often take over nutrients
- They can be pathogen carriers and spread
- They tend to accumulate humidity, affecting the infrastructure where they are
- They tend to accumulate humidity, affecting the infrastructure where they are
- They also provide positive aspects: development of biodiversity, brake against erosion, host desired hosts, conserve humidity in crops ...
- They help a correct diagnosis of our soil
- It is convenient to carry out an analysis and evaluation prior to treatment, to determine the need to do
- We carry out very localized treatments, preserving biodiversity and respecting the environment
- Three drones, adapted to the need of each treatment
- Drones with artificial vision, automated flight and detection systems
Positive and negative aspects of weeds
However, one must be very selective when removing "weeds," as they also contribute many positive aspects and can be part of sustainable agriculture.
- They favor the development of biodiversity.
- They are a brake against erosion land
- They improve the rhizosphere ground
- Increase the number of desirable guests
- Generate padding which can be interesting for the moisture conservation that other plants need, in turn contributing organic matter
- They can be used to make a good compost
- Our help to make a correct diagnosis of our soil, given that depending on the type, they will tell us if our land is rich in one or the other compounds
For the reasons described above, it is advisable to conduct a very detailed study of the area to be treated. Furthermore, it is important to determine whether the weeds affecting a particular area are actually beneficial or detrimental to our crop , beyond mere aesthetics.
Regarding the presence of weeds on infrastructure , the situation is very different. Because one way or another, they always end up affecting its structure, exerting pressure with their roots, increasing humidity, etc.
How do we carry out drone weed removal treatments?
To carry out weed removal with drones, at FitoStinger we have various tools; depending on the degree of affectation and the type of weed to be eradicated and, above all, its location.
As pioneers in this type of application, we specialize in localized infrastructure treatments . Our FitoWeed drone is the ideal tool for this. Thanks to its applicator arm, we can reach hard-to-access areas on monuments, historical buildings, roofs, and other structures without the need for scaffolding or a skilled climber. This saves costs and improves safety.
Once we have located the weeds we intend to eradicate, we will apply the herbicide very precisely to each point to be treated, thus preserving the rest of the surrounding area and not affecting the biodiversity of the site.
Elimination of weeds in crops with drone
Similarly, we will treat crop areas in a highly localized, precise, and drift-free manner . When these types of treatments are required, we can use one of our other drones, either the FitoVelu , with some minor modifications, or the FitoAgro, when the areas to be treated are very large.
As always, we leverage the technologies we develop ourselves in areas such as computer vision, autopilot, and application autonomy . In short, the best option for weed removal with a drone is using our equipment.
