Weed removal with drones

Weed removal through the use of drones

Drone weed removal is one of the innovative new treatments developed by FitoStinger. We tell you how we do it.

What are weeds?

Is named weed, weed, undesirable plant, among other denominations, to any plant species that grows wild in an area, generally cultivated or controlled by humans; as crops agricultural, gardens or buildings. Therefore, almost any plant can be considered a weed if it grows in a place where it is not desirable.

Weeds are considered a nuisance, especially among people engaged in gardening or agriculture. Many grow aggressively, preventing the normal development of other species. In addition, they tend to grow with considerable vigor, as they are in most cases endemic species very adapted to the environment and with great ease for their expansion.

Weeds are usually classified as some 8.000 of the 250.000 species of plants that exist in the world and, therefore, representing 0,1% of the world's flora.

What effects do weeds produce?

Some of the effects they produce are light restriction to other plants desirable. They also often take over nutrients applied to the soil in a given location for desired plants. Too they can be carriers or spread pathogens that degrade the quality of a crop. They may have thorns and chemicals that cause skin irritation. Some are harmful if ingested. Others can be very annoying since they can be confused with desired plants and generate problems both in cleaning and handling. Some have parts that adhere to clothing. And many of them are made with the resources of the surface where they are, as few as they are, weakening that space and being moisture accumulators, with the problems that this entails, such as those that grow on facades, roofs, roofs and other parts of various infrastructures.

Weeds can be classified in different ways: according to their life cycle, the shape of their leaf, or their preference for a specific climate or season.

  • Weed, weed, or undesirable plant are those plants that grow in cultivated or human-controlled areas
  • They proliferate in crops, gardens or buildings
  • Many grow aggressively, preventing the normal development of other species
  • They are usually endemic species with great capacity for expansion.
  • They are classified as about 8.000 of the 250.000 species of plants that exist in the world
  • They usually restrict light to other plants
  • They often take over nutrients
  • They can be pathogen carriers and spread
  • They tend to accumulate humidity, affecting the infrastructure where they are
  • They tend to accumulate humidity, affecting the infrastructure where they are
  • They also provide positive aspects: development of biodiversity, brake against erosion, host desired hosts, conserve humidity in crops ...
  • They help a correct diagnosis of our soil
  • It is convenient to carry out an analysis and evaluation prior to treatment, to determine the need to do
  • We carry out very localized treatments, preserving biodiversity and respecting the environment
  • Three drones, adapted to the need of each treatment
  • Drones with artificial vision, automated flight and detection systems

Positive and negative aspects of weeds

However, it is necessary to be very selective when it comes to eliminating «weeds». As they also bring many positive aspects and they can be part of a sustainable agriculture.

  • They favor the development of biodiversity.
  • They are a brake against erosion land
  • They improve the rhizosphere ground
  • Increase the number of desirable guests
  • Generate padding which can be interesting for the moisture conservation that other plants need, in turn contributing organic matter
  • They can be used to make a good compost
  • In help to make a correct diagnosis of our soil, given that depending on the type, they will tell us if our land is rich in one or the other compounds

For the reasons previously described, should make a very detailed study of the area to be treated and determine if weeds are really affecting us a certain area is positive or negative for our crop, far from the merely aesthetic.

Respecto a the presence of weeds in infrastructure, the thing is very different, because in one way or another they always end up affecting its structure, putting pressure on its roots, increasing humidity, etc.

How do we carry out drone weed removal treatments?

To carry out weed removal with drones, at FitoStinger we have various tools, depending on the degree of damage and the type of weed to be eradicated and, above all, its location.

As pioneers in this type of application, we highlight our treatments in infrastructures in a localized way. For this, our FitoWeed drone it constitutes the ideal tool. Thanks to our applicator arm, we can reach places of difficult access in monuments, historical buildings, roofs, roofs ... Without need to have to build a system Scaffolding to be able to get to those places, or to have an expert in climbing. Saving costs and improving security.

Once in front of the weed that you want to eradicate, we will apply the herbicide very precisely on each point to be treated, preserving in this way the rest of the environment y not affecting biodiversity of the place

In the same way, in a very localized, precise and drift-free, we will treat the cultivation areas that require this type of treatment, for which we can use any of our other drones, either the FitoVelu, with small adaptations or the PhytoAgro, when the extensions to be treated are very wide.

As always, nourishing ourselves on the technologies that we ourselves develop in aspects such as artificial vision, self-pilot and autonomy in the application. In short, the best option for drone weed removal is the use of our equipment.
